[NEWS] 110906 JYJ Members Unable to Appear on Music Programs, Turn to Popular Dramas

September 6, 2011 · JYJ3 Team

Though it’s normal to see idols taking on a side job as actors, the situation of JYJ  (Park Yoochun, Kim Junsu and Kim Jaejoong) is quite different. Other singers appear on music and variety shows while having roles in dramas. However, JYJ can only be seen starring in dramas.

The first member who made a drama appearance was Park Yoochun, who from last August till November, appeared in the historical drama “SungKyunKwan Scandal” (KBS) and made his mark as an actor that drama producers wants to work with. Afterwards he began filming “Miss Ripley” (MBC) which started filming in May and wrapped up in July.

Kim Junsu appeared shortly on “Scent of a Woman” as Asia’s top Hallyu singer “Junsu”, who Lee Yeon Jae(Kim Seon Ah) wanted to see before she died. “You are so Beautiful“, the OST that Kim Junsu performed live during the drama, drives into the viewers’ ears whenever an emotional scene takes place between the two leading roles (Kim Seon Ah and Lee Dong Wook).

Kim Jaejoong is currently playing the role of Department Head Cha Mu Won in “Protect the Boss“ (SBS) who is the creator of the love triangle between him, No Eun Seol (Choi Kang Hee), and Cha Ji Hun (Ji Sung). Critics have stated that though his acting was a little awkward at the beginning, he is improving as the episodes progress while other critics state that he is doing extremely well when portraying a financial character.

A member of the Board of directors, Park Jin Hyung, of the production company for “Protect the Boss” and “Scent of a Woman“, which is AStory, stated “Kim Jaejoong was chosen as the first person for the role of Cha Mu Won, and we felt that Kim Junsu was the appropriate person to take on the role of a Hallyu star in the drama, as well as to sing the OST,” and “SM Entertainment‘s influence doesn’t reach the drama industry, unlike the entertainment industry, so we were able to cast JYJ in their respective roles without any problems.” SBS PD Nam Tae Jin of “Scent of a Woman” stated: “No interferences took place in the casting of JYJ.”

While Baek Chang Joo CEO of C-JeS Entertainment shared some words regarding Kim Junsu’s short appearance in the drama: “As Junsu has already made his mark in the musical industry, he doesn’t want to take on dramas just yet. But Jaejoong and Yoochun will continue to appear in them.“

It’s so refreshing to see someone in the entertainment industry step up and tell it like it is. But I guess after the KBS/Jeju fiasco, it’s become laughable for them pretend as though there are no behind the scene shenanigans going on …

OMG, the K- entertainment industry people really knows the situation JYJ in. The article stated clearly who blocking JYJ. I think some of them don’t like what that company’s doing. And thank God there are some clear mind in the industry. I pray for JYJ Album smooth release.
Thank you Lovely Adminie for sharing.

So an indirect admission from an industry insider that SME really does influence the people over at the music and entertainment departments <.<

From what I’m reading, I’m not going to say this is indirect admission, I’d rather say it’s a clear-cut and direct admission of who’s been messing with our boys!! ^^ Am happy though, at least someone from within that circle willingly puts a company name in the news, instead of certain other bullshitters who answer questions like retards!~ ^^

well tell this to SM supporters who still deny that their precious company has nothing to do with what’s happening with JYJ and that fans are just assuming … *evil laugh* I so love it everytime something likes this comes out.. proving that we are right.. though on the other side this is the ugly truth.. but I know it’ll end ..

LSM sold his stocks.. buys a house at LA.. SM profit goes down fast .. Overworked SM idols.. evil will end at some point as consequences finally take it’s place..

    • mir90
      September 7, 2011 Reply

It’s actually really direct. But I think it’s much easier for someone involved in the drama industry to admit this. The situation is different from Japan for example where certain entertainment agencies have a grip on virtually all kinds of televised entertainment, especially dramas, and even print/radio to a huge extent. SME’s modeled itself after those Japanese companies but thankfully they haven’t been as successful at dominating all those areas … yet :X.

      • Ali
        September 7, 2011 Reply

wow i never knew! But also, one thing that’s easier for artists in Japan, is when they promote their songs, they don’t have to go to variety programs in addition to music stations. They can solely simply promote their music.

  9. fleur
    September 7, 2011 Reply

At this point, to me it’s not a huge deal if they appear on entertainment programs because JYJ have proven that they have enough creativity to ‘reinvent the wheel’ of promotion, so to speak.

To me, it’s just the principle of the matter now that needs to be rectified. JYJ should have the choice available to them to join entertainment programs. To allow SM to throw their weight around with no one to stop them is appalling.

This article mentioned something about how critics view Jaejoong’s acting … I’m curious. It seems to be a mixed response … I know the cast loves him but otherwise …?

They said his acting was a bit awkward in the beginning but that he has shown great improvement since. That is not mixed.

i cant understand people who still keep defending sme by saying “what proves are there that sme is the one who did the blocking to JYJ?”
well, to those, i give you this:
“SM Entertainment‘s influence doesn’t reach the drama industry, unlike the entertainment industry, so we were able to cast JYJ in their respective roles without any problems.” this isnt some random guy. he is a member of board directors of AStory production company. he do know what happened.
even when JYJ won the injuction, the court itself stated that bcoz sme known to interfere with JYJ activities, thus they make a fine if this happened.. i mean, really, people, how more blind can you be?
and thumbs up for PArk Jin Hyung to said it out about sme.

Great that someone in the know has finally, openly admitted this. But am I the only one who thinks this is also a tacit admittance that though SBS are happy to cast JYJ members in drama’s, they won’t be showing them any support as a singing group, or having them on their music/variety shows when the album comes out?
