Yes, I agree with your point. There’s no doubt in my mind that SM owns the rights to all the images of the members while they were at the company. The “Beginning” photos–that’s another story. I hope CjeS WALLOPS them hard for that. Of course it goes without saying the monumental NERVE these con-artists have in using JYJ’s photos to recruit more unwiltting young music hopefuls into their cult.

3) Junsu same as jaejoong. SM was just a stepping block to help him show his talents and get his name out there.

Well, actually they needed the coaching. It doesn’t matter how good they were when they auditioned in SM, they weren’t professionals only amateurs with good voice and passion for singing. Every job has it’s tricks you need to learn to be able to work professionally, and their job is singing. They had constant singing lessons in the beginning, there’s even a video of it on Youtube somewhere (it was some Japanese tv show if I remember correctly). And I hate the fact but sadly the boy’s contract with SM still stands, the court only nullified the exclusivity of it and gave them right to do what they want somewhere else untill the lawsuit has finished and the judges come to decission. Although I’m not sure about this one, this case is dragging for so long, I don’t even know when was the last time I heard something about it…
But think of some of the people in SMe right now. There a lot of not so phenomenol singers there even though they have been in the company for years. JYJ’s talent had always been there, with or without SMe, they would have still trained/practiced throughout the years and gotten as good as they are now since music have always been their passion.
The old pictures we can’t complain about, but SMe did not have the rights to use Jaejoong’s Beginning photo in there. Those pictures didn’t belong to them, but C-jes.
Singing lessons are not about being talented or not. Of course, you have to have good voice to start with, lessons can’t give you that but coaching is about teaching you how to use that talent you have. Breathing techniques, using different styles of singing depending on the situation, reading scores and such. And singing in the bathtube won’t give you that.
You need to take singing lessons. Jaejoong, Junsu and Yoochun are not gods (even if we tend to think so 
) only humans, so they could be phenomenal as you said but they still needed those lessons to become professionals instead of enthusiastic amateurs.
And as I said earlier, I can understand why SM used the trio’s picture. I don’t like it, but I understand. At least I try to. Sorta. Every school brags with their ex-students who became big names later in their life, why would they be different? JaeChunSu were their best of bests after all.
But using the picture of The Beginning album is just stupid and shameless on SM’s part, I agree with you on that.

I hate to tell you this but around the world, in every other country in the world but SK, overwhelmingly, most of the greatest singers who ever lived have never been “coached” a day in their lives. As children, they opened their mouths to sing and a glorious sound poured forth. They lived for music, sang a lot and soon enough, they learned how to do what they wanted to do with their voices. It’s not exactly rocket science. This dubious system that SM has, this taking of super young talented hopefuls and signing them to impossibly unfair over long exclusive contracts that they can’t get out of has way more to do with controlling them and in locking in maximum ease of exploiting them and way less to do with truly readying them for long singing careers. If anything, SM would not necessarily want its singers to find career success after SM finishes with them. Wouldn’t that just further fragment an already small market? Please I just beg of you, do not fall for these shameless ‘re-labeling’ tactics that SM has done over the years to cover up their terrible real agenda: getting young kids with a dream to work their ASSES off for them for 10 years with no power to protest their paltry royalties and no way to get out of the company.

But I don’t agree with you on the first part. Don’t think that those we see singing on tv didn’t take lessons somewhere in their lives. Just because they don’t talk about it doesn’t mean they didn’t learn something on the way from someone who knew what to do. Nobody’s perfect, nobody knows everything, that’s what you have teachers for. Do you think Whitney Huston didn’t have a music teacher who taught her the basics of her profession? Or Sting, or Bonjovi, or any other big name. All of them had that “somebody” who taught them the little secrets they needed to be better.
What SM does is a totally different matter just as you said. But my comment wasn’t for justifying what SM does, but for the need of teaching those little secrets even to natural geniuses like Junsu or Jaejoong.

Jaejoong himself said that he still takes singing lessons once a week. Nobody’s forcing him now, he could stop if he wanted to. But he goes anyway because he knows that it would help him.

In the court SM said that JYJ didn’t give much to them, while the other artists did. So, with their “big” contribution, SM should respect them more. But when it comes to promoting them (the company), both SM & Avex like to useJYJ more.
I know that Junsu and Jaejoong went to this academy, but I don’t know about Yoochun. If I recall, Yoochun was only a few months in Korea before debut.
1 year. I think he trained for about 6 months and the rest of six months was for preparation for debut.
It’s six month not a year. Training and preparation for debut all added up to 6months. lol

the last pic, you see JAe’s pic and then Changmin’s? its form The Beginning, in which it was after they left SME. The Beginning was the album SME tried so hard to block by sending letter to Warner Music for them to ceased the production n selling.
and, i believe no one denied they were product of SME. but the problem is, they have other artists. why must use JYJ? in the last pic, if you see the promo viedo, they didnt even put Yunho’s pic. and Changmin’s pic was under Jae’s. they didnt even put HOT n Shinwa’s pics. those 2 known n respected as original idol group n legendary group. so why must JYJ only? i dont even see Hankyung there.
and its not about the pic is being old. after they left SM, JYJ have achieved more than what they had when they were in SME. achievements even other SME’s idols/artists have achieved, ever. so by using them in their promo video it just like SME seems to made people think that JYJ are product of SME’s academy, and they could be like them too if they joined SME Academy (well, that was the purpose of promo video, rite?) but the problem is, what JYJ have achieved arent product of SME’s training or hardwork. as we know, they hardly mentioned for their music achievement. but people i believe know about their achievement as actors or as musical actor. this isnt product of SME academy. heck, SME havent even produced good actors/actress yet, no matter what their fans said. beside all their successness in music totally are JYJ, Cjes n staffs’ hardwork. all SME did n still do is blocked them. and now they use JYJ for their promotional videos for their academy. one of their class is for acting class. from all the artists pics’ they shown in their website, i believe so far only CHun’s (with award from SDA, KBS, MBC, and Baeksang) and Jae (with award from 14th Nikkan Sports and SBS) and Junsu (with his Musical awards) are considered as promising actors. Chun even have been admitted by many people in acting world as Actor Park YooChun. it just so unfair for SME to make it look like they have a hand on JYJ’s achievements.

It’s alright if SM did/does not do their best to destroy JYJ’s career, but considering all those circumstances to undermine JYJ, does SM know how to spell S-H-A-M-E ? All those idols you mentioned haven’t experienced JYJ’s struggle to stay in the business, so you can’t relate JYJ to them.
For me it’s okay, if they’re using the old pics of the boys, to state the fact that they are the best students. I haven’t checked the website, but how they used the the images (as sampled up there), lol it’s shameless.

it’d be okay if SME and JYJ parted in peace. But they did not. Even though the pictures are old, they’re still JYJ’s pictures, their images. The effect will be the same as using current ones. Perhaps SME has copyright to those pictures, but it has no shame. Desperately trying to ruin JYJ’s careers, yet still using their images to represent its Academy, I mean, really? How does that bring good image and reputation to its Academy then?

I agree with what you are saying but I just wanted to add that SM did not let them go by any stretch of the imagination. Our boys fought to be free from the chokehold SM had on them. Their work, their success, their popularity and their talent were hard won.
I always thought that SM was just plain ruthless in their greed but now I’m beginning to think they might actually be crazy. Like full on delusional crazy. I see this as a two pronged attack. Yes, they are acknowledging JYJ’s international star power. Something they claimed would take 13 years to achieve. Right. So, they are trying to ride that shooting star track. But what they will not tell these cluess people, once we get you, and debut you, we will bleed you dry until we have no more use for you. Reiterating, any company that will overlook sexual harassment of one of it’s artists, is swine. So, the standing of SME in my book does not change, no matter what.
Second, they are trying to rub it in that they still have rights over TVXQ’s name power. Which technically they do since they still own the copyrights to the catalog. That’s the main reason they held onto HoMin for dear life.
But all of this still does not remove the stench of shameless bloodsucking vipers who have no souls. Despite having the right to use their images, it only highlights how immoral their characters are. They continue to do everything under the sun to block JYJ’s activities, defame their characters and run their good names.

Come to think of it, before a promotional video comes out, it will be presented to the board or to the department heads for a go signal. This is not just a mere school project but for a worlwide promo and there they put Jaejoong first among the male idols. I think it doesn’t stop there, there’s more to it, I don’t know what drama sm is brewing but I think using Jae’s photo is just a prelude for their more shameful acts.

Once again we see the powerful SM P.R. machine go into action, with no deceptive trick in the book being too low for them. This is their indoctrination phase of young, uninformed music hopefuls with an eye to recruiting more of them to join “The New Paradigm.” Which as I said before is nothing new – enforced servitude is as old as humanity itself. The difference here is that they have to get the prey to walk into the trap by themselves. That’s where the P.R. machine comes in and they are as devilishly creative at ‘re-labeling’ their activities as they are shameless at using the very young men of JYJ whom we now have overwhelming evidence clearly showing they have vastly underpaid and exploited them and are STILL DOING IT, this new way in order to recruit NEW talent, to further repeat the process of exploitation of the young for their exclusive profit. I won’t watch the video either because even the prospect of it turns my stomach. These men, this company SM – as my sis BAF says, they truly are evil. That little logo at the top of their page – the silhouette of the young kid reaching for a star…that’s it in a nutshell. That hopeful kid with big dreams is who they are out to catch. It’s sickening, to think about it continuing to happen.

Off topic… But I want to ask if anyone remember KBS’s banning of Pierrot and the meaning of “PSM”. I noticed the video shows “sucees museum”, which probably is “success museum” spelled wrong.
Didn’t Jae explained PSM to mean something related to Sucess Museum? Is this his reference? I have been puzzled by the nebulous interpretations of the “offending lyrics” for a long time now…
Mystery solved… I think SM Academy is the “museum”, which calls itself “success museum”. Interesting English usage… Here is what I found online:

woww good detective work! jj has really good underlying meanings thats definite ^^;; Truly, the overall content of Pierrot (which is one of my favs in their rooms) is to tell their story while serving in SM ent. Maybe JJ wanted us, his fans to discover the real meaning by ourselves since he can’t really outright say it. He knew we were smart hahaa. I remember he first explained it as kids wanting to break out of a prison like school but there’s a more detailed story underneath it. Being abused, overused, and wanting to break out of their imprisonment.
No wonder SM and its allies banned this song, it narrates how awful the behind the scenes of all those glamor and glitters .
SM Academy students should learn this song as their first piece, anyway it is composed and sung by the academy top students, then the second piece will be the Unnnamed Song Part 1.

actually, in the sitemap (link;http://sm-academy.com/etc/etc_sitemap.asp or sitemap above the page),or from the first page it was link shown using hangul, next to word “ABOUT ACADEMY”. No 2 (Program Part: Music& Midi technology, voice training,etc) it using Junsu’s pic, no 3 (Facility Guide) it using Jae’s pic n no 4 (Lecturer Guide) using YooChun’s pic. it the same like the pics shown here in the site. i dont know whose pic is no 5 in the sitemap, coz everytime i clicked it, it bring me to a white page with random code/writing. but in the home page, the upper right end link, if you click it bring you to the ‘Notice’ page in which it using Yunho’s pic. as for no 1 (SM Academy Introduction), i dont really follow SME’s female idols/artists nor SNSD girls (i only know Tiffany, YoonA, and kinda remember Taeyon), only remember F(x) members faces, so i dont know who is the girl with hat in the pic.
but in the Academy introdution, the third link (above ‘Contact Us’) it will bring you to the page filled with pics of artists. you will found only Jae n Changmin (both written as DBSK members). but you wont see Yunho, as the leader of DBSK there.
I’m just going wait patiently for either C-Jes or JYJ reaction because I’m hoping they are troubled by this as all of us are, I just don’t want to think C-Jes/JYJ are going to ignore SM stupid strategy by taking advantage of them like this, SM doesn’t deserve it!

If you think carefully about this situation you’ll see this is not only about marketing or drumming up business for their new Academy.
It’s clear that this is a SLAP and a TAUNT in the face of JYJ. This is SME making a statement to the world, and it says… WE MADE JYJ WHO THEY ARE NOW!
From a marketing stand point this is what we call a PIGGY-BACK… when you attempt to ride on the coat-tails of one who has succeeded without you. You cling on like a leach .. to the one who has succeeded using their own talent, skill and financial resources and you use their “blood” to sustain your existence. And this is what a low-life company like SME knows how to do and they do it well..USE PEOPLE for THEIR OWN PROFIT!
Since SME has tried every low tactic they could possibly devise and still failed… their next tactic is to say… “Okay we can’t stop JYJs EPIC rise to fame.. so now let’s see if we too can profit from the fame they are building on their own… ”
But SME… Your zipper is down… This shows the true nature of SME. Granted SMEs intent is to INSINUATE that they made JYJ who they are today….but on the flip side it also shows how little the care for their current roster of idols as people and how little they respect them as performers. Because no matter how you look at it there is a subtle message here and it says if you want to see an example of the end-product of their supposed “System” training then look at JYJ. The message, if you attend SME Academy you can be like …SNSD?… No… SUJU?… No.. SHINEE?… No….TVXQ2 (AS A DUO).. No… . by using the faces of JYJ, SME is saying attend our school and you can be like JYJ.. the three guys who are suing us. Think about this inspite of the fact that using JYJs images might create negative PR for them.. SME would still prefer to use JYJs images over their current roster of supposed ORICON Chart Toppers? This says SME does not respect their current roster of idols as performers enough to use only their images as a means to reach and recruit new potential students for their Academy. WOW!? How humiliating is this for SMEs current roster of idols. Now that’s a slap in the face for their current idols… no matter how you look at it.
The other point is this… What REPUTABLE company in their right mind that was engaged in an ongoing lawsuit where they are the DEFENDANT.. would use images of the PLAINTIFF in their current marketing materials to promote any division of their business? NO they would remove those images ASAP.. because it creates NEGATIVE PR for them. Every time we see photos of JYJ in relation to SME the first thought is Lawsuit-Slave Contract. And even for a Newbie… the question would be .. “Oh who are those guys?.. Response.. JYJ.. but they sued SME for an Unfair Contract. Newbie.. @O@ !! Oh let me do some research before I sign this school contract… .
But here lets just make it simple… Would any well known University prominently display the images of past students who sued them for unfair treatment on their current website in an attempt to promote their school and recruit new potential students? Does that make any sense from a Public Relations standpoint? Something is seriously wrong with SME.
But one thing we have learned in the past year.. as always this pattern will repeat itself.. so we know very soon this too will backfire on SME and even this will work in JYJs favor.
All we have to do is just wait patiently for the Universe to make the adjustment.

You guys, SM didn’t just use JJ’s pic, they also used Infinite’s Sungyeol, MBLAQ’s GO, Rainbow’s Hyunyoung,4minute’s Gayoon, and Afterschool’s Raina based from the video. If they used JJ’s photo without permission then they those star’s too. Geez WTF SM?!
I think that at this juncture we must examine the well-worn path, the SM stated and repeated ’position’ that they and they alone made the members of JYJ all that they are today and, in earlier
tellings of this urban legend, this is the reason why JYJ’s greed-driven flight from them was akin to punishable mutiny, showing how ungrateful and unloyal they were.
Today, in 2012 of course, this stance is laughable if it were not so heinously self-serving and misleading, so rigorously refutable.
A vocal instrument of the caliber these three young men each possess, is God given – please people believe me, this is true. Talent such as theirs cannot be taught, ever. It can only be trained and enhanced thereby. I have never been one to say that the members did not walk through the doors of SM willingly, or that their late teenaged years there were not spent productively. They decided that they were going to be real singers early on and literally blew the doors off the competition not soon after their debut. They also began to develop their songwriting skills early on; they were in all ways different then the majority of all other SM talent, who did what they were told, tried to look as seductive as possible at ”scheduled appearances” and sank, exhausted into bed every night, finished for the day.
The three stand-out members of DBSK wanted more for themselves, and early on demonstrated their considerable abilities in that direction. They were in all ways transcending the SM “paradigm” of behavior for their Idols, as soon as their early twenties. And the group, DBSK, was massively successful. We may never know how many untold millions they made for the company over the years of their tenure there.
But for the sake of argument, lets pick the number 100. This I think is a conservative estimation, but let’s say it was 100 million dollars over the course of the seven years they were active. The TWO years of their “exhaustive training regimen” where the company “spared no expense” to ready them for public scrutiny…
Don’t you think that, as any college or grad school tuition is calculated, the members of JYJ have HANDSOMELY, GENEROUSLY paid for their education in full? Remember: two years of training…100 million dollars. I would say, by ANY stretch of the imagination, probably by the first year they had shown themselves to be the Goose That Laid The Golden Egg of the century to SM. So the next important date that I would suggest doubters look at is, after seven years of tirelessly doing everything the company asked them to, and brilliantly I might add, they asked something of the company in return for all of their hard work and massive success. And SM said “NO.”

Yeah, everytime I think about that comment… “We have to recoup our training investment”…I simply want to gag. They act as if they spent all the money in Fort Knox and they are no where near getting that back. But this only works on the uninformed, or as we say in the political spectrum…low information voters. There are some people in this world who can be fooled ALL the time. Then there are some of us who are willing to take a critical look at a situation and see it for what it really is…BS.
SM’s big trouble is they never take into consideration how foolish this sounds when it really gets looked at…say in a court of law. The judge saw right through that one, and flicked it aside along with the other issues.
But no matter how hard SM tries they are never going to obtain another golden goose triumvirate such as JYJ. Blinding greed is all SM knows. It can’t filter anything else. I agree it will probably never be known how much was brought in, unless a forensic audit is done. I would love to see one of those babies put on them. That ought to upset their stomachs for a lonnnnnnnnnnnng time.
The real money makers in this case are all those concerts, and related activities. But again, a day of reckoning may be just what the doctor ordered. When justice is served, I hope she decides to take a HUGE chunk out of SM’s hide just for the fun of it!
can sm use any member of jyj to promote their acamedy? yeah they could. just like if you became this big star or politician, your former school can name you as someone they taught. now, should sm use any person they are currently invovled in a nasty legal battle with– where one side(the pupils in this case) want nothing to do with their former employer(teacher) aaaaaahhh, no. it just doesn’t look right. do i have a problem with jaejoong’s image(the one used after the lawsuit was filed) being used, not unless jyj and its agency made sm pay a VERY high price tag for. i hope they asked(ahem…paid) for the rights to use that photo. if they didn’t, i can’t see how jyj wouldn’t be in their right to sue over copyright infrigments.
