The drama Time Slip Dr. Jin is getting itself caught up in a lot of trouble even before its start. The drama will be produced by Lee Kim Production and will star Song Seung Hun and Kim Jae Joong, and is set to start up in June or July as an MBC miniseries. Since it started production, however, it became involved in a lawsuit with SBS’ Faith, which will star Lee Min Ho and Kim Hee Sun, over plagiarism claims. The original writer and producer of Dr. Jin filed for a broadcasting ban against Faith, stating that they would take strong measures against plagiarism. This time, however, the drama is actually to be at the other side of the lawsuit over claims that it didn’t uphold the rules it needs to keep in the industry.
Apple Tree Pictures, which produced such dramas as Time Between Dog and Wolf, revealed that it would be taking legal measures against Dr. Jin over its scriptwriter contract. A rep from Apple Tree Pictures said, “We recently learned through news articles that Han Ji Hoon, who wrote for Running Wild and Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War, would be writing for Dr. Jin. Han Ji Hoon, however, is a writer that has an exclusive contract with Apple Tree Pictures, and was in preparations for a different drama. If writer Han participates in the script of Dr. Jin, we have no choice but to take legal measures against it.”
The rep added, “As production companies working in the same industry, Lee Kim Production knew that there was a legal contract that needed to be honored between Apple Tree Pictures and Han Ji Hoon, but ignored it all the same. We believe this calls for legal measures because it breaks down the trust between production companies and interferes with Apple Tree Pictures’ pieces and Apple Tree Pictures’ production. We’ve brought up many inexperienced writers and supported them, and Han Ji Hoon also debuted in the drama scene through Time Between Dog and Wolf. We’re angry at the fact that we have to talk about legal measures against a writer that we worked so hard to help debut.”
“Outsourcing production companies always honor the contract between production companies and writers in order to maintain order in drama production. They sign contracts with the writer and wait for their turn in the order they signed the contract. Han Ji Hoon has two or three more contracts with other production companies after his contract with Apple Tree Pictures expires. The production companies that hold those contracts may also file complaints, and that issue can spread to have a great impact on all other drama production companies,” the rep warned.
Dr. Jin is an adaptation of a medical manga of the same title being published in Japan for 10 years by Motoka Murakami. Scriptwriter Jun Hyun Jin of Soonpoong Clinic was also revealed to be writing alongside Han Ji Hoon for the drama.

A simplistic reaction to this: all these so called “debuting companies” that “help” actors/singers/dancers/writers/artists, etc in Korea have too much power and control over their employees, and all they do is create a mess for everyone. ( again, this is a very simplistic reactionary answer). However, much too often we see this formula across the k-industry: “the debuting” company feeling like they own the person and the air they breath.

Agreed. It’s horrible to see, & must be even worse to live with, but so many of these companies have shown again & again that they believe they own their artists body, mind & soul.

I would like to think that the company behind the writer had known that he was writing for this drama… I mean, if Mr.Han hadn’t told them about this then the press release should have clued them up… they didn’t cause hassle about this when it was first announced, why now I wonder…

Apple Tree Pictures is pretty oblivious about its contracted writers, isn’t it? Finding out about it through news articles, doing nothing when information about this drama first came out (which was a while ago), and only wanting to take action now when Dr. Jin is about to start filming. Way to ruin things, bravo! >__> Ugh, I hope this mess will be solved soon so that Dr. Jin can get going. I don’t want Jaejoong to be unhappy.

I hate the fact that actors are dragged in such awful conflicts, because I must say that unfortunatelly all Korean entertainment have been built on a net like -mafia and the contracts are slavery ones.I must blame the company which didn’t take all the pre-emptive measures BEFORE MAKING EVERYTHING PUBLIC ! Trying to squeeze among KOREAN LAWS is annoying and damage all those implicate in it. If the writer is under Apple’s contract, shouldn’t Apple sue the writer? It can take action agst Dr Jin’s producer if the producer hire the writer without going through Apple, rt?

its not necessarily sm , i am not ruling this out though but i am not accusing either for this unless there is real evidence , all i am saying this is not new and its not because Jaejoong is in it, such things do occur in the entertainment industry and like daebacksama said the ownership culture , everyone treats the other like i own u do as i tell u and create a mess, there is also un-clean competition when someone wants to get popular and wants it fast , he plays dirty, he goes trying to defame the other or cast someone in the bad light using what they can to cast that light for them to have a chance to gain the better results themselves and yes on the expense of the others all i am saying no matter who u are or what ur case is in the korean entertainment industry u gotta be careful and smart and even then u don’t know what to expect if ur working there, i mean if u are clean don’t be surprised of being accused used and abused out of the sudden . because someone ells out there has a benefit when u go down they will nail it , nail u, and it doesn’t concern if ur a writer a singer and actor or whoever etc
