Veteran actress Song Ok Suk (52) has high praises for group JYJ’s Park Yoochun whom she works with in MBC TV’s ‘Missing You’.
On a recent meeting in Goyang, Gyeonggi-do’s SBS Tanhyun Production Centre, she lauded, “I am usually stingy in giving an assessment for rookie actors, but Yoochun is a little special.”
After earlier this year’s SBS ‘Rooftop Prince’, this time again in ‘Missing You’, she appears alongside Park Yoochun.
“During ‘Rooftop Prince’, there were no parts requiring direct acting, and though I was viewing from the sidelines, his extremely hardworking appearance left an impression. Honestly, as he started out as an idol singer, I didn’t think much of him and just lightly went with it. But he worked really hard.”
“I don’t normally talk about the juniors, but Yoochunie possesses a potential that is worthy of praise, hence I openly discuss it,” and, “These days, he can express emotions to a great depth and quickly absorbs whatever I teach, his display of enthusiasm and ability is praiseworthy.”
In ‘Missing You’, Song Ok Suk and Park Yoochun play the roles of a mother who loses her daughter in the hands of a murderer, and the daughter’s friend respectively. The pair who shares the same painful memories lives together as mother and son 14 years after the incident despite not having any blood relation, and shares a sticky bond.
“Among the juniors, there are people who, after being taught, do not listen or do not understand. If a decision is made to become an actor, the spirit of professionalism should be adhered, and poise oneself to challenge and work hard on everything. There are also children who compromise easily in situations, wanting to get by easily. When I see these people, I find it such a pity and feel disappointed. However, Yoochun is different from those children. Although it is unclear if it is because he started out as an idol singer, to break through those (concerns of an idol-turned-actor), he works hard. Having been in this circle for 30 years, I’ve watched many actors. Here too, it’s a world where the weak are prey to the strong, trying to achieve easy success without working hard will not get you far.”
Laughily, she said, “All the ahjummas around me watches ‘Missing You’ because they find Park Yoochun suits their taste after watching him,” and, “Although the drama’s content is difficult, I too, am enjoying the filming while watching Yoochunnie who suits my taste. People are all jealous of me.”

The way she calls him yoochunnie – it’s like a real mother-son relationship. I feel good reading some good praises from someone who sees chunnie’s effort and hardwork.
Yoochun’s an example of someone who just because he started as an idol doesn’t mean we have to under estimate when they entered the acting career.

What a great and sincere compliment from a highly respected veteran actress. Yoochunnie is a true actor. He happened to start out as an idol/singer which I am glad because that’s how we got to know him first. But he is a wonderful actor.

This confirms that our chunnie really posess the talents. There are some anti-reviews and seems like they are really just being jealous and using weird judgements. Although we are crazily biased for chunnie, our opinions of his acting have not been biased at all! Even the professor has the same opinion as us!
I can imagine her using chunnie’s acting in MY and RTP as a model or case discussion on core acting techniques. Wah..all her students will be chunsas soon!!

Well said dear..I admit, I really crazy about Chunnie but his acting improvement was really no joke..We are not crazy for nothing rite coz some ppl said we praised his acting because of JYJ but I know him as actor 1st..Even the professor admit his talent n attitude was different from others..We know he really worked hard these days..He deserved it..I hope teacher SOS can get award together with PYC n YEH coz they really deserve it..

I am so happy that Madam Song praised so highly of Chunnie. We are knew Chunnie worked hard for all his dramas and revealed his talent for acting after SKKS. Never I expected her to so this. She really doesn’t talk or praise any juniors before. Love her acting and my mum even said she should get an award for this drama alongside Chunnie and EHye. HAHAHA!!! True, I think most of her students will become chunsas too… Now most ahjummas and ahjusshis are tuning in to this drama. Wow, they must be thinking how to get Chunnie to be their SON in LAW!!!!

After 4 drama, he still consider rookie? I’ve been smitten with Chunnie since SKKS and I knew then that he got some serious talent in acting. At first I didn’t know he’s an idol singer..hahaha..tbh he was the one who introduce me to JYJ.

She’s one of my top veteran actress in K-drama/movie land. She’s really hard to praise new actor/actress and what she said about Yoochun, well that’s seriously one of the highest acknowledgement towards Yoochun’s abilities and talents. After this, whoever doubt of Yoochun’s acting capabilities ~ well, that’s just jealousy by pure haters!
