[NEWS] 121215 Triple crowns Beast “Glory with JYJ’s Junsu…”

December 16, 2012 · rilanna

Beast was selected as the most popular singer of the year at ‘2012 Melon Music Award’.

At ‘2012 Melon Music Award’, which was held at Seoul Olympic Park Gymnastics Stadium on December 14, Beast received three awards including, Melon Music Award TOP 10, Artist of the Year Award and Netizen Popularity Award.

This day, Beast went up to the dais, dancing, when they were called for the Netizen Popularity Award. Leader Yoon Doo-Joon said, “I want to mention who we couldn’t mention before because we were so busy. Parents of 6 of us came. We want to thank them and Love You. We know that we’ve been competing with Junsu. We are honored. And Happy birthday Junsu, as tomorrow is your birthday. Last but not least, we love Beauty.”

Nominees of Netizen Popularity Award were Beast, XIA, Big Bang, Girls’ Generation-TTS, IU, Shinhwa, KARA and G-Dragon and they had a fierce competition. Finally, the award went to Beast.

Dunno what to feel about them mentioning our Junsu….. Don’t just know.

Aww, its a good thing, no doubt about it! (: I felt Beast are good dongsaengs to Junsu, acknowledging him though he was not present.

There are different translations because the one I read was, “Even though he couldn’t be here tonight,…I wanna greet our Junsu Hyung Happy Birthday!…”

I know our Junsu should have won via fan votes, but I guess there are also the # of downloads of the song that are taken in account, thus Beast might have fairly won this award overall.

no of dl only make up a very small precentage of the overall score, so junsu should win if he is allow to attend the show. but anyway i still thank beast for what they did. love the friendship there

        Ali, Junsu won.

        http://www.melon.com/svc/awards/2012/vote/award_vote_second.jsp?voteType=NF

        he did rank 1st.

According to Melon, if you rank 1st, you do get an award. i guess you have to attend the ceremony to get it, but if your not there they give the ones who did. maybe its the system like that if you don’t attend the ceremony, but if you do rank 1st, you do secure the award, that system is known and has always worked that way, but with JYJ and XIA, its ignored as if they don’t see who got No 1 . so it goes to who raked 2nd. Its their system but they don’t abide by their own awards system. of course to please SME

see everyone, the ban is still on.

see, SME just wanted to be out of public eye, but they still influence to keep this ban as strong as it was 3 years ago.

the fact he didn’t get to attend the music award is loud and clear evidence JYJ are still banned from the music scene.

          December 17, 2012

Agree. I know that for MAMAs if you can’t or won’t attend then you will not get the award. This is not official but everyone pretty much knows that that’s what happens. Was he at least invited to attend? Just wondering…

Update: That’s why i said in my comment i don’t know what to feel. I know Junsu won, the fact that Junsu was not invited in the awards, why would they still mention him? Even if they are friends, for me it’s like rubbing an alcohol to the wound, it’s just my opinion ok? but whatever, Junsu is not bitter but he is sad, if you remember one of his tweets about not being able to perform.

Why would melon include Junsu anyways if they won’t let him attend? Or were they threatened by “something” that’s why it ended up this way?

However Junsu is still the winner for me, the fact that he won the voting.

Junsu don’t let this affect you :)

        @Chunnie’sEyeLashes

Knowing how incredibly competitive Junsu is and how desperately he wants to be freed of these terrible constraints – I think it’s a safe bet that he was VERY upset. Very very upset. And it was an abrupt slap in the face by friends. It was cruel. I think the whole thing is just shameful.

“what the hell are u talking…? dont said that…”

Well, what would you call it? Junsu won in this category. He had the most votes by a wide margin. But he wasn’t invited to the ceremony. He was excluded from it. So his “friends” who came in second got the award and they accepted the award quite happily. They said nothing about the fact that JUNSU had actually WON the award but was being blacklisted from the event which is what real, true friends would do, not people who are only “friendly” when it suits them – fairweather friends in other words.

          What do you call that?

It’s melon and I don’t think Korean’s mainstream media is ready to allow Junsu to win anything yet. Anyhow, to be a nominee is probably kinda nice since JYJ never really got on to any mainstream music awards nomination last year (I think).

actually jae also mentioned in his interview that he lately listened to beast n watched their perf =)

and yeah, i respect them so much, since they arent afraid to mentioned Junsu n JYJ more than once, in interviews and TV shows and now DooJoon even mentioned it while Beast was receiving they award. i heard that Junsu’s vote was leading the poll. and i guess maybe DooJoon knows that too, since Popularity/Netizen award actually was based on vote by netizens. and maybe thats why he mentioned junsu =) but its really warm my heart how they arent afraid to show they support to Junsu n JYJ =)

JYJistheBOMB- agree with you . BEAST needs these triple crown news headline to promote. They are going to have overseas concert somewhat next month.

And would like to raise out, the battlefield outside Korea is much ugly. Yoochun in acting field, face tremendous twisting & attacked as well. He was defeated by SM and all its related media in sina voting

SM + China 安徽卫视 + sina + China filming partner + TvN + Mnet ….
CREATED super junior Kim Ki Bum ” I Love Lee Tae Ri” ,
BEATEN JYJ Yoochun Roof top prince.

          * a voting mechanism highly skeptical. Fans voted for Yoochun with utmost effort, yet the counting
          is totally insane.

Because Kim KB is filming a tv drama with China, they will push his name up to sky and defeat Yoochun as much as they can.

          @JYJistheBOMB

Well, they know about how corrupt and unfair the Melon awards are now. This is ridiculous. BEAST should be ashamed of themselves. They didn’t “win” that award. They stole it from their friend because they took advantage of a corrupt system.
I’m getting tired of these pop groups blithely benefiting from a rotten system and acting like nothing is wrong.

I just read the Japanese translation of the article Korean article: http://www.e2news.com/news/articleView.html?idxno=67235

Junsu got 185,519 (42% vote), while Beast got 147,310 (33% vote), and unlike other category, netizen’s votes weigh the most on determining the “Netizen Popularity Award.” There are many furious Japanese fans who were hoping that justice would come to JYJ… but sweet Junsu’s tweet was forward-looking and loving as always, thanking fans for supporting him….

Hopefully, things will get better for JYJ soon… May be it is a good sign that there are articles like this, so people can know: http://www.e2news.com/news/articleView.html?idxno=67235

according to votes, Junsu did win, but he wasn’t allowed attendance to receive the award. they just, ignored the facts.

in fact Junsu ranked 1st on Melon for the award.

They just ignored it …… as if it didn’t exist.

and its not the first time, both Junsu and JYJ, both never receive awards for something concluding they will because of the win in the votes. so they rank 1st in both album sales, singles , votes. even their drama and musicals rank 1st.

not winning an award for the past 3 years makes it seem like they made no accomplishments in music filed.

if you go to wiki and such like informative official sites, they can’t say, JYJ won a music award for and for,

      no records.

this is why, it is crucial this ban is lifted from the three, and this exclusion from music awards at year end is a serious, serious , serious problem.

Fandome when will you speak up against this, if not now, then when.

voice out Music broadcast for JYJ, including music awards attendance broadcast, national music votes inclusion and music performances broadcast on music shows.

This is really important it can’t be ignored any longer.

wake up fandome, the “in legal dispute” excuse is over, lets snatch this chance now.

@Anonymous – thanks for your info. And i think this is more than Junsu or JYJ not able to present at an award event , then they are not given any award.

IU, also absent from this 14-Dec 2012 Melon award, the trophy also go to her. ( she attended another fans meeting event instead).

All entertainment owners , shareholders, interested bearing parties all hate JYJ. Because these guys ” destroyed ” their heaven of deprivation, and cause too much spotlight from the world.
        Sigh.

However, look it in another way, Jang KS also receive NONE awards, both singing & acting. Yet, he is
the richest artists among all in their age group. Making this a benchmark, perhaps will relieve a little bit. ( just saying)

i’m sure it’s not easy for B2ST to accept the award, being good dongsaengs to Junsu and all…but it was really sweet and courageous of them to mention him in their thank-you speech.
we know Junsu won’t be invited to music awards and nothing really has changed…yet.
so if not Junsu, then i’d rather the ppl who’re supportive of and friends with JYJ win instead. so, congrats B2ST!

Oh, my God. I know Junsu is strong, but I know he must be crying inside. I feel very bad for him. I can’t believe this Melon crap, it is just SO unfair. I hope his friends and famiy surround him and give him comfort–I cannot wait until January when they have that ruling. The corruption in the Korean entertainment industry needs to be exposed and thoroughly eliminated! It is unbelievable! In the meantime, Junsu, I know you will once again astound and amaze everyone with your upcoming 3-day concert. Show them what you got! Junsu fighting! JYJ fans, keep fighting!

Hi all I know yes it’s upsetting but they (Melon) have just shown to everybody how low they are, since they are not even interested to fake the percentage to justify Beast’s win, it reflects badly on them. My respect to Beast for mentioning Junsu on stage. I agree with @Aurora’s benchmark, nothing comforts me more than the fact that our boys are rewarded better than their ‘peers’. Someone is too busy promoting their artistes (tweaking awards results, voting in China etc) and these will be grouped under expenses, so less for the artistes themselves. @Anonymous, the person updating Wiki JYJ can add the fact that JYJ was unable to take part in awards or broadcast in the last 3.5 years. Can also add this lastest Melon fiasco, with reference to the percentage of the actual winner in the Melon website.

i feel kinda insulted actually no offense to beast. im just still in the hurt stage. maybe next time jyj get nominated we should boycott that they take them out of the list of nominations instead because really what they’re doing is insulting them like saying we nominated u, u won, but we’re not gonna give u the award. so maybe it’s better if they’re not nominated at all and we fans just celebrate the fact that they are without a doubt #1. i just dont want the boys to keep hurting. :’(

Well, I think — BIG insult to BEAST. What were they **thinking** seeing the results of the voting, that their supposed FRIEND Junsu had won by a large margin and being told, no they get the award. And then to go up on stage and get it!? No. That’s just weak. It’s just lame and I’m sorry, all respect is OUT the window for this band and it’s members.

This is one of the big problems I have with the idol system. These little boys stay little boys. They are treated like pack animals, they are told what to do every hour of the day and they are threatened and punished if they don’t do what they are told. So now I know that BEAST are a bunch of scared little boys. Great.

:@isa and @junchan, my personal opinion is Melon wants Jyj fans to react this way, to give up voting on them as we start to feel disillusion and that no matter even when they won first place whether through votes or sales, they will not be invited on stage to get the prize. To me, the record in the website that Jyj is first, that is something recorded in posterity. Everyone can see who the actual winner is and the shame is on the organizer for not honoring the winner. This shame and disgusting behaviour is also recorded for posterity. If we do not vote them at all, they might be at the bottom and it is not a true reflection of their achievements or popularity.

Just want to let you know that I have utmost respect for many of the JYJ supporters here – our Admin, yourself, BAF, Loveunchanged, A Friend of JYJ, JYJ Global Listener, Aurora, Dbullock etc (so many more names). I enjoyed logging into JYJ3 daily to read all your comments. Not forgetting your Asian Sentinel articles and setting up of standup4JYJ. So much integrity and intelligence floating out here! We want things recorded for posterity and as time passes, some wrongs will be righted. We do have cases of medal winners having medals returned to them or taken away …

I can’t remember which article you have just commented today, that you will give up voting – just want to let you know that you got Melon & Mnet mixed up. The Melon Award is the one that refuse to award Junsu. Mnet is the one that our Admin asked us to vote JYJ3 fanclub. It will be interesting to see if Mnet honors JYJ if they win.

This statement for me says it all. The best revenge is success. The pettiness, the shamefulness, the absurdity is not on those who earn the reward. Nor do they belong on the shoulders of those who have no say so, or power in the SK music industry. Those attributes go to those who continue to foster a plantation system.

I’m not going to hold it against BEAST for not being courageous. Not everyone can be. Slaves on a plantation are faced with enormous hurdles. Escaping slavery is not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination.

When you understand the system of slavery and what it does to the enslaved and the enslavers, you see things in a totally different light. This is what exists in the SK music industry at the present time — SLAVERY. So, please try and remember, who should shoulder the greatest burden here, and it’s not the slaves.

      PEACE

OK, if you choose to call them slaves and absolve them of any responsibility to their friend, if you say they couldn’t help it, they had to do it, etc etc, fine. But let’s just be clear about one thing – they aren’t anybody anyone should think are “cool” and they certainly aren’t true friends of Junsu. I’m sorry but this is more of that Homin crap, saying all of those outrageous things about the members of JYJ while comfortably perched on a couch on one of endless TV shows. All the Cassies screamed “They can’t help it!! SM is making them say those things!!” It had a sour ring to it then and this time is no different.

          Lili,

Did you know that Harriet Tubman, once she escaped and led some 300 other slaves to freedom, had to point a gun at her own relatives – siblings, to MAKE them leave captivity.? They were simply too afraid to leave on their own. And as I’ve said before, I’m DAMN glad she did, for personal reasons.

We are talking a mindset here. No, not all are incapable of thinking for themselves. But let’s be honest here. We are talking about precious few. How many times have we said…SM looks for those eager faces who dream of stardom, and they hook them. Well, this is what the entire industry does. It plays on the minds of these impressionable, vulnerable youths. They have stars in their eyes, and these gangsters know this. Another thing we’ve said, they are hampered by the Confucian ideology that is a foundation of this culture. Honor and obey. How long has it been since brides in this country have omitted using the word ‘obey’ from their marriage vows? Not that long right?

Changing mindsets is not something that happens overnight. In the case of a certain couple of folks from SM, I agree, there was dishonesty involved, because they ALL experienced the same nightmarish conditions. Forget the hogwash that comes from those SM apologists. Their opinions are based on smoke and mirrors.

I’m not saying there isn’t some measure of responsibility. We as human beings all have to take responsibility for our actions, because actions have consequences. But let’s try and keep in mind what we are dealing with here. BEAST is not responsible for how this turned out.

Not each and everyone of those in these idol positions have the intestinal fortitude, nor the same skills as JJ, YC, or JS. Nor do most of them enjoy having the history these three have.

Two of the members of BEAST are part of FC Men. It is probably not out of th realm of possibility that the person in question, has not contacted JS and expressed his feelings about this award situation. And Junsu being the strong individual he is, understands. His better angel tells him, bigger and better things are on their way for him. Why cry yourself over this slight, when there have been so many. This is not a slight BEAST created.

I’m simply expressing my opinion. Nobody else has to agree with me. I just don’t feel the need to blame someone else for a situation they did not ceate.

          @BAF

I’m sorry, my dear sister (whom I love and you know I do) but I just can not equate the black experience of slavery in America in any way with the situation these little early-twenty something boys are experiencing. In my brain it just does NOT compute.

The members of JYJ were no different in circumstances than BEAST at one point. SM was arguably a much harsher overlord than Cube Entertainment because DBSK committed the crime of being fantastically successful, the money was rolling in like crazy and LSM said “More, more, more, faster, faster, faster!” JYJ managed to get the cojones to stand up and say, “This sucks and we won’t take it anymore.” They certainly never profited like BEAST just did with a tainted win in a cheap rigged “competition.”

So that for me is a new high watermark in bravery and honorable behavior. BEAST falls far far below.

And I don’t think Junsu was in any way as magnanimous as you seem to think he was. Junsu WANTS it. He wants to be a star, that’s what he has always wanted; he is single-minded. He is also intensely competitive. He wants awards, he wants recognition, now more than ever because he has finally come into his own as an artist and performer. He has found his muse, he has found his footing as a worldclass performer. The very idea that he won this competition by as much as he did, only to be robbed of it by his so-called friends…. no, I don’t think it was OK with Junsu at all.

          My VE Sister,

We are going to agree to disagree on this one. Maybe because my perspective allows me to see things you don’t see. When the court called that contract subjugating, they were calling it a slave contract. I am sure it was not much different from the ones the remainder of the idol corps signed, except with some special SME flavor. No, the situations are not identical, but the concept is the same.

To own someone to the extent, that their life is not their own, is to make that person a slave. This is why the members of JYJ had to sue to get out of it. No way, could they afford to ‘buy’ their way out of the contract SME held them under. Do you really think, the contracts of all the others were that much different?

Regarding some awards for DBSK, I’m sure there are examples of favoritism. But the fact is the entire industry’s method of dispensing awards is suspect. Look at what happened at Oricon in Japan. There just isn’t a reliable system in place in Korea or Japan.

But we’re obviously not going to come to accord here. So, I won’t push this farther.

        @BAF,

I love your plantation analogy. Looks like the slavemasters will try to continue ostracising JYJ in broadcasting and awards to prevent a slave revolt.

@lili, loveunchanged, isa I understand the anger and disgust we all feel. To win fairly but not getting the award. According to Wiki “The Melon Music Awards is a major music awards show that is held annually in South Korea. It is known for only calculating digital sales and online votes to judge winners”. Baaf! Anyone knows how we can edit and update this latest fiasco in Wiki Melon? Junsu was nominated this year, if I understand correctly from the comments it is the first time JYJ is included in the running. He won and yet this “major music awards show” refuse to honor it. This black mark on this “major music awards show” will remain for posterity. One day, when some reporter, whether SK or international, ask about it, how will they answer to it? “We can’t give him the award because SM paid us not to”? “We can’t give him the award or SM will boycott us next year”? They can act as if Junsu is invisible, winning but not awarding him, hurting and insulting him this way but everybody knew who is the true winner because the percentage results are in their website.

As for BEAST mentioning Junsu in their speech, my personal take is: I put myself in Junsu’s shoes – I won an award but they refuse to give it to me but to 2nd prize winner who happened to be my friend. Should I be angry with the organizer or my friend? Should my friend refuse the award, if they do, it will go to 3rd place winner. Plus they will get blacklisted next year. Cube is a small player compared to the big 3.Doe s my friends’ management company allow them to refuse the award? I take BEAST’s mentioning of Junsu in their speech as a way of acknowledging that there is no sore feelings between them, that they are still friends no matter what. Anyway, we will know if Junsu feels upset with them when he twitters or meet during their FC Men matches. If I read Junsu correcftly, he does not feel that way with BEAST.

That’s why I referred to them as weak little boys. We know what stand up young men do when they are faced with injustice. We have JYJ’s behavior as a barometer for doing the right thing against nearly impossible odds. This just the latest slap in the face to Junsu is especially cruel because his own friends, those he has cherished, felt they had to line up and be counted on the side of the cheaters.
