[NEWS] 121231 Kim Junsu Brings His Audience to Tears with His Solo Orchestra Concert

December 31, 2012 · anmcha3

It was a perfect harmony of skill and effort. JYJ member Kim Junsu presented 7,000 fans with a perfect performance that had them shaking with emotion.

On December 29 Kim Junsu held his 2012 Xia Ballad & Music Concert with Orchestra, and performed for 150 minutes with a live orchestra team.

After proving his skill with the success of his world tour and his first solo album Tarantallegra, Kim Junsu again showed off his charms in his recent all-live orchestra concert.

A rep from his agency C-JeS Entertainment told enews on December 30, “Because it was a year-end concert, we could see many families and lovers. Fans from Asia, including Japan, China and Thailand, and other regions such as North America and Europe, could also be seen, proving the success of his global tour.”

A choir, orchestra, band and pop chorus came together to make the performance look like one giant musical stage, and at other times helped Kim Junsu sing the ballads from his studio album as well as his OSTs.

Kim Junsu was applauded from start to finish for his explosive vocals and emotions. He also spent most of his time outside of singing onstage, talking with his audience and showing off his wit.

The concert started with a video showing a young Kim Junsu playing around in a vintage setting, with an adult Kim Junsu finding the child and pulling out a book full of memory. The book opened and Kim Junsu, who had fulfilled his dream, appeared onstage with a giant page of sheet music and his orchestra. The musical Mozart piece I Am Music played in the background.

Kim Junsu said, “Mozart is the piece that helped me perform in musicals for the first time, and gave me a meaningful award.”

He then went on to sing a piece from his other musical works Tears of Heaven and Elisabeth. Actress Kim Sun Young, who starred in a musical with Kim Junsu, appeared onstage as a guest singer to sing a piece from Tears of Heaven with him.

In his ballad performances he sang I Believe and Perhaps It Is, followed by a performance of Really from Nice Guy as he played the grand piano onstage himself.

“The way the audience looked to me from onstage was beautiful. I′m happy that I can sing pieces that are meaningful to me with a live orchestra. I′m happy that we′ve talked a lot, and made a lot of happy memories,” he said.

A fan from Japan commented, “The artist Kim Junsu is like a genius. I was so touched by his performance with the live orchestra, and I couldn′t stop crying. It was a great, historic performance, and I wondered whether there would be any other artists like him.”

Fellow label mate Song Ji Hyo came to watch the show also. While singing Because You′re My Girl, he met with Song Ji Hyo as he held her hand while she was sitting in the audience.

Song Ji Hyo said, “I′m Kim Junsu′s label mate and I′m a big fan. All of his performances were touching and I had a special time crying and laughing with him. I felt Kim Junsu′s energy onstage is great.”

A rep from the orchestra said, “It′s difficult to hold a concert with an orchestra, but Kim Junsu did it. I can say that he′s the best vocalist with his emotional vocals and a leadership that brings together his orchestra and band. The audience showed their support for performances that were enhanced by the orchestra, such as the acoustic version of Tarantallegra. I′m happy that his sincerity reached the audience.”

Kim Junsu′s concert will be held again on December 31.

Our Junsu is meant for the stage, but what a pity that media in his own country would not give him the recognition he deserves. Has there been any news reports about the concert from the 3 tv stations? Correct me if i’m wrong, but i don’t think i have seen any. But still he has risen above the current circumstances by having the willingness to experiment and explore new avenues in the field of music, and even with the possibility of failure he has surged ahead. Thank you Junsu for being such a fighter!

I am so happy and fill so blessed to be able to experience an artist like Junsu. I say that loudly even though I have never seen him live. But he brings me so much joy just being able to watch and hear him from my little computer monitor that I cannot put it into words. I just love his go get it, free spirit, positive, confident, risk taking, do it my way, attitude. I feel he truly feels you only live once and need to live your life the best way you can. I think that is what he is doing. He is not waiting for certain people or things to happen he is moving forward doing things that he want to do that he feels is going to make him happy. To me that is the best way to live your one life on this earth. I applaud and look up to Junsu for having the courage and strength to move forward in life this way.

Junsu was absolutely amazing all three nights. If he gave 110% the first 2 nights, he put in even more tonight. There are very few artists in this world who can perform the way Junsu can, and I feel so blessed to have been a witness to it. Definitely not a bad way to kick off 2013. ^__^

junsu does not just perform on stage. he brings his audience into his world of music and lets them not only hear but feel and see and “touch” his music and his emotions are transferred to his audience. it is a mutual experience of the senses as i am sure junsu can feel the awe and love of the audience back to him as he performs. he really is music in motion. one day i hope i can be one of the lucky ones to experience him first hand!

ANOTHER ARTICLE — CONCERT REVIEW :)
    ________________________________________________

121230 [Concert Review] JYJ Kim Junsu with band and chorus, a 150-minute fantasy
(Source: Withinnews Translated by: XIA world)
    ___________________________________________

The bright light shining the concert hall was turned off and on the big electric screen, veil was lifted.

    “Hello. I am XIA.

It is cold outside and traffic jam is happening on every street. You guys must have been through a lot to make it here, am I right?
    … …
In return, today I shall perform an excellent concert.”

The show then started with a greeting video message for the audience.

    “Do you still remember?
The house we drew at that time when we were still kids, the small room filled with toys, the old-fashioned sofa and ancient books soiled by our finger marks. In our eyes, the house used to be so big, the toys used to be so cool and the book used to look so mysterious… ”

Soon afterward, Kim Junsu appeared on the LEC screen. He opened a door to a vintage place where he used to run and play around in his childhood. Then, crossing the line between the present and his reminiscence, he found a child – his own self from the past, holding a book buried in old memories.

Then, a ‘little Junsu’ walked through the audience, went on stage and unfolded the book of dream on his hand. As if he has flied over time by a time machine, silhouette of the present Kim Junsu who has achieved his childhood dream was revealed on screen. Music has embodied his life. Along with a giant music sheet on screen, the ‘Genius singer’ appeared on stage and presented the first song painting ‘the whole life and freedom of a genius composer’ from the musical ‘Mozart!’ with the performance of a magnificent orchestra.

Just like a movie scene, that is the opening spectacle from the three-day ’2012 XIA Ballad&Musical Concert with Orchestra’ started on 29 Dec at D-Hall, Coex, Samsung-dong, Seoul. The ‘fantasy’ of Kim Junsu which touches the audience’s heartstrings throughout 150 minutes has started like that.

‘XIA Ballad&Musical Concert’ is a gift set filled with Kim Junsu’s favorite songs from musicals, ballads from his solo album and also his popular OST. Throughout the whole concert, his explosive singing ability and an all-live orchestra have created a perfect harmonization together.

Centered on musical songs, the first half of the concert placed more weight on harmony of the orchestra. Vocal chorus and orchestra have reenacted accurately the magnificence of a musical stage. The symphony of many string instruments, such as violin or cello, has added in more sorrow to songs that were already familiar to the fans like ‘I am I am music’ and ‘I can’t escape my destiny’ from musical ‘Mozart!’; ‘The tiger and the dove’ or the duet ‘Can you hear me’ from ‘Tears of heaven’ with Kim Sun Young.

Harmony with the band shined the most in the middle section centered on ballad such as ‘I hate love’ and ‘Even though I knew’. Harmonized well with the pop chorus, his appealing voice captured all eyes and ears of more than 7000 people in the audience. The ‘Lullaby’ that can melt every fan’s heart through its dance moves with beautiful dancers was rearranged into a ballad, which has stimulated its sweetness to the fullest.

Popular drama OST or favorite songs that he likes to sing in daily life were also newly interpreted, giving a whole new vitality to the songs. With harmonization of merely keyboard and guitar, the song ‘I believe’ and its realistic lyrics touched the heart of everyone in the audience. Meanwhile, the performance of his favorite song ‘It seems so’ is a stage that proves how powerful the beauty of his voice truly is.

Personally playing piano and singing, he has gifted the fans an unforgettable performance of ‘Really’, an OST of drama ‘Innocent man’. Sorrowful lyrics as well as beautiful melody of the popular song ‘Love is like snowflakes’ have dissolved into his sentiment and added in deep emotions. His latest digital single ‘Thank U for’ of which lyrics was written by his twin brother JUNO was a joyful and cute stage and as a surprise event for actress Song Jihyo who still came to the concert hall amidst busy schedules, he has interpreted a different and delightful version of Lee Seung Gi’s ‘Noona is my woman’.

Kim Junsu also showed his special attachment with the last song ‘Traces of sadness’ (Kanashimi wo Yukue). It was the first time he sang this song at a concert since the concert in Tokyo Dome 3 years ago and to him, “I really love this song to the point that it is not an exaggeration to say that I collaborate with an orchestra in this concert just to sing this song. I have wanted to sing it so much all the while but couldn’t.”

The acoustic version of ‘Tarantallegra’ for the encore stage was fresh and exceptional. Its arrangement flavored by funky rhythm matched well with the harmony from orchestra and gave off a charm totally different from the original.

Filled the concert hall with his own melody in 150 minutes, Kim Junsu promised “I will show everyone a better performance next time” and gave a 90-degree bow to the audience. The last page of Kim Junsu’s own music story ‘2012 XIA Ballad&Musical Concert’ has been turned over like that, leaving behind deep emotion and reverberation.
