There is the old saying: numbers don’t lie – and judging by the counts of album sales, 2013 is shaping up to be a pretty stellar year for some of most highly regarded K-Pop artists.
According to Instiz, the site that compiles the various charts used to rank music sales in South Korea, these are the top-sellers so far this year.
2013 is off to a great start in K-pop with the return of some of the top acts in the music industry. Even though digital sales have been steadily taking over the physical album sales, this year many idols have enjoyed high album sales.
The ranking isn’t exactly scientific as album releases vary by date, and certain albums have more than one part or include repackage editions. But still, when’s a ranking ever not fun?
Here is a list of the top 10 artists who sold the most albums in 2013 so far from January 1 to April 30 courtesy of Gaon:

** This is the currently ranking of Hanteo’s Top-selling Artist of 2013 (From January 1st to March 7th) with Kim Jaejoong topping the list.
** Kim Jaejoong released “I” Mini-album on January 17th and the repackage mini-album “Y” on February 26th. Because both albums are limited editions (there was an especific number of copies released to the market by C-jes), this ranking might change at the end of the year.

GAON Monthly Album Chart: February
** Total Sales: 50,000 (All the printed copies produced by C-jes Link)
** Kim Jaejoong’s Mini-Album “Y” was released on February 26th, and topped GAON Monthly Album Chart (February) after just 2 days in release.
** The Gaon Album Chart are a set national charts that ranks the best-selling albums, including mini-albums and singles, in South Korea, provided by the Korea Music Content Industry Association. The charts are made up of charts tracking domestic album sales, international album sales and a combined overall album sales in weekly, monthly and year-end format.

Week: 2013.02.24 – 2013.03.02
** Kim Jaejoong’s Mini-Album “Y” was released on February 26th, and topped GAON Weekly Album Chart after just 5 days in release.
JYJ Jaejoong’s ‘vampire’ transformation has been gaining attention online.
Recently on an online community board, a picture with the title, ‘Jaejoong Repackage album Y Vampire Version’, was posted.
It was revealed that this picture was a piece of fan art drawn by a fan.
The fan drew Jaejoong ghostly pale to look like that of a vampire. They also added red eyes for more of an enticing effect. Many felt that his image made him look like that of characters from the “Breaking Dawn” series.
Internet users commented, “He could pass as a vampire”, “This image suits him well” and “The person who drew it has great skills.”
