According to the Korean Press on 15 February, JYJ Member Park Yoochun’s younger brother Park Yoohwan debuted as an actor on MBC’s drama “Shiny Shiny Shining,” and has gained much attention from the entertainment industry as well as fans.
As he is the younger brother of Park Yoochun, who is a member of a famous group, it is only natural that the Korean entertainment industry places more attention on him, but also leaves “JYJ Yoochun’s younger brother” as a first impression. To this, Park Yoohwan expressed that he doesn’t mind, saying, “My brother is a superstar that I will never be able to surpass, but in the field of acting, I want to surpass him. My brother joined the industry first, and has given me some advice, so I feel very grounded.”
When being interviewed by the Korean Media, Park Yoohwan expressed that both he and his brother spent their youth in America, and his brother loved music, and often wrote songs and sang it to him. For himself, he enjoyed acting, so he would rent some DVDs to watch, then try to imitate them. After that, he returned to Korea because of this, and took up acting classes.
The media reported that before debut, Park Yoohwan had mentioned to Park Yoochun that he hoped to develop himself in the entertainment industry, and become an actor. During then, Park Yoochun’s answer was that, “There will be many obstacles, and it will be difficult, so you have to consider this carefully.” But after his brother had set his mind on it, Park Yoochun has been totally supportive of Park Yoohwan, and even Yoochun’s fans are supporting Yoohwan. Park Yoohwan expressed that his brother and fans’ support are the driving force that pushes him to work harder.

Broadway expert lauds Korean talents as ‘exceptional’ on world stage
A veteran U.S. musical director has said Seoul’s musical scene boasts a many more talented musical actors than Broadway but lacks the time necessary to perfect technical elements to make the product more sophisticated.
Robert Johanson is in Seoul to direct the musical “Monte Cristo” for the second consecutive year. The show is to run from March 1 at the Chungmu Art Center with local musical stars Ryu Jung-han, Um Ki-joon and Shin Song-rok triple-cast in the lead role.
“In terms of talent, it’s exceptional. That’s why we could do a triple cast. In many shows in America, I couldn’t find three leads to triple cast that would be equally good,” said Johanson in an interview with The Korea Herald.
“I’ve noticed that a lot of people in China and Japan come here to see musicals in Korea because the best singers are in Seoul,” he said.
However, Korean musicals need much more development time, especially for the creative team to fine-tune technical work during rehearsals at theaters to further refine the product, he said.

Rookie actor Park Yoo Hwan recently expressed his gratitude toward his older brother, JYJ’s Yoochun, for giving him a car as a present.
Park Yoo Hwan told Star News on February 15th, “I’ve always really liked cars and had a lot of interest in them. After passing my driver’s test recently, I found a car that I liked and pestered my brother about it; he really ended up buying it for me as a present.”
The car Yoochun bought his brother was a mid-sized sedan. Yoo Hwan explained, “I know that the prices of cars depend on the car options. It wasn’t over $80,000 USD.”
He continued, “I nagged him, saying that I’ll try my best if he buys it for me. It was Christmas at the time, and since it was around the time I was preparing for my debut, he bought it for me as a message of encouragement.”
“When I told him that I wanted to become an actor, hyung became worried and said, “It’s not an easy path to take”. I became worried as well, but in the end I made my decision. Hyung supported me and said that since I’ve already started, he told me to earn myself a good result.”
Yoo Hwan concluded, “I’m really thankful that I received such a big present. I want to work my best and give back to my hyung to avoid disappointing his expectations.”
Park Yoo Hwan is currently acting in the new MBC drama, “Shiny Shiny Shining.”
