TRANSCRIPT:
(Talks about music being played over the border of South Korea and North Korea)
The speakers have been blasting not just news about Kim Jong-Un but also, and this is true, South Korean pop music.
Now they haven’t said exactly what music they’ve been playing, but I hope it’s some of their better kpop stuff… (he named some korean singers) or maybe TVXQ, but of course, before Hero Jaejoong left, cause I think we all know that after that the whole band’s sound went to shit. I didn’t need to google any of that. That was all up here *points to head* and in here *points to heart*“.
I can’t stop lauphing the video is hilarious 😀
about jaejoong and TvXq5 it’s just a well known truth has been spoken
Yes,Jaejoong was the lead vocal. No one can fill the space JJ,YC and JS left. I’ve watched HoMin singing Balloons with shinee members.I don’t have to say how stupid it was to replace JYJ members with shinee.Same if they sing songs like Begin. HoMin sang Daushite and Love in the ice well, but ones who have listened to the 5 version would feel that something is missing and the emptiness.
Bad thing is some of our Asians don’t understand the truth.(No,I think they deny the truth that is obvious)
sorry if I hurt some of the fans here,as didbay said there are some old fans who love both JYJ and TVXQ. I must say that they are true fans of DB5K.
actually talking about DBSK can make our fans divide.I don’t want to talk about this with JYJ3 readers again.
I loved and continue to love DBSK5. I have been posting here on a number of occasions some of their old pieces. There is no denying they were good as 5. But to remove 60% of the group, and more specifically the visuals and the vocals, composers and lyricists of the group and then for the remaining 40% to continue parading under the same name is plain cheating, just as it would be cheating if I take a 1 liter bottle of whiskey, remove 600 mils of the wiskey and add 600 mils of water. Will that still be whiskey? Or if I don’t replace with water, just leave the remaining 400 mils of pure whiskey, will it have the same value? If they are so good and don’t ride on the fame that they earned as 5 why don’t they be more creative and come up with a new name, which is their own, the way JYJ did.
@ MJunior Oliver was being sarcastic.
@ anna liza p. m. your comparison is off. add a voice that doesn’t fit to the group and the result is a not good sinning group, add a voice that fits a group, and the result is a good sinning group. simple as that.
Water may not give you real whisky when it’s added to whisky, but water on it’s own is more than good and even healthy to feed to your body. There was no water added to TVXQall5 if your saying TVXQall5 are the whisky.
You missed on your own point, no one was cheated by TVXQall5, they were fine only because each voice was fine on it’s own to begin with, not because of one voice.
Junsu’s resent OST still ranked at no.1 without Jaejoong’s voice. There was no cheating in TVXQall5, Homin, JYJ, nor in the 5’s solos for sure. Oliver was just joking when he said what he did, no one should feel they have to appease to what he said.
stop hating on Homin please. The solo voices of each of the 5 ,themselves each have a melody of their own. Just because you dislike one or two melodies, doesn’t mean that others dislike it too. Don’t diss at a melody because you don’t like it. Don’t call it a cheat, if you really liked TVXQ5 in the past, but now call it a cheat, then JYJ is also a cheat because they aren’t TVXQ5 either. the name don’t count if your measuring the number of voices.
Just let others continue to love what they love, no need to hurt them by calling their beloved melodies cheat and not the same value.
If a JYJ fan keeps dissing at Homin, you are just a homin fan that diss on JYJ, because you that type of fan that can’t enjoy their melody without going her way dissing at other’s favorite melody/singer’s voice. That’s called being an anti, no matter what fandom you come from.
If JYJ one day separate, will you say the same thing again using the same example?
Well said anna liza. I share your view
Well said anna liza…I feels the same
@MJunior I love JYJ and DB5K and I totally share and agree with anna liza point
very well said ana liza.
lets just pray 4 both group. i think that jj wont like it if we continue bashing each others idols. as a loyal fan, let us continue supporting our idols. that’s it.
I thought it was hysterical and was amazed someone on his staff knew anything about TVXQ and Jaejoong to begin with. I did have someone upset with me for retweeting it on Twitter. Oh well.
I laughed out loud. The shade of it, I believe John Oliver’s staff have a JJ biased fan among them.
Shriek-worthy, for sure! LOL
Although I am Jaejoong biased, I think this is disrespectful. I love Jae and JYJ. Their music is great even but there are a lot of fans who love current TVXQ and also both of JYJ and TVXQ.
I am surprised by his mention about Jaejoong and TVXQ but I don’t approve his joke.
I am not agree with his joke too.
This is a satirical news show on American TV. What he said was not even close to disrespectful, and is not even targeted at fans. He doesn’t need to care about what fans think and doesn’t need anyone’s approval.
lol @rockmelon when it comes to this its not disrespectful but mentioning tvxq in something jyj is disrespectful? even the choice of words are not even appropriate. where’s the JUSTICE here? seriously people its not a laughable joke.
@didbay your different from @kris, it just shows me that not all Jaejoong bias fans are disrespectful to other fans feelings.
Thank you and all who disagreed with this joke.
Your are surprised by his mention correct? Me too.
Lol he said the truth. Everybody knows that even from west side lol. Im actually not that surprised cuz kim jaejoong got the most popularity outside Korea~ For his WOW thats-hard-to-be-described the-awsome-and-outstanding vocals and singing. Thumps up for John Oliver!
Sometimes the truth hurts 😀
‘Sometimes the truth hurts’ well said kris…so true
the truth must have been SO painful to them that they even make up excuses to cover it up lol
“he must be jj’s biased”
“nah that is a joke, he doesnt mean it”
“he knows nothing about tvxq so this is not true” and the list goes one Lol
you 3, your colors are showing.
Don’t you realize he said that all their voices are shitty without Jaejoong? That includes Junsu and Yoochun. Are you fine to thumb up such person while on a JYJ site?
How long have you waited to hear such words? On the expense of other fans feelings, you just don’t care do you. you come to a JYJ site, and post such words and show such gratitude towards an idiot joker like Oliver.
Watch how amazing our JaeChunnie oppas are.
@ MJunior Thank you for this. It’s a really beautiful demonstration of the harmony between the soulmates, but of course they cannot sing it now. coz it belongs to Avex & SM. Just to keep the record straight. This was a special project of Tohoshinki. Here is a quote from Weeki, not me a biased JYJer:
“Colors (Melody and Harmony) / Shelter” is a special release single by South Korean boyband Tohoshinki members Jejung and Yuchun in Japan. It was released on September 30, 2009. The song was a commemorative song for the 35th anniversary of Hello Kitty in Japan.
The songs were written and co-arranged by Jejung and Yuchun personally. Bandmate Junsu also worked on the arrangement of “Shelter.” “Colors (Melody and Harmony)” featured on a special digital EP, .These songs, written and arranged by JJ & YC have over 3 mln hits on YT alone. Who do you think gets royalties for it?
That was not the only special project that JJ and YC were tasked with. The following month, October 2009, there was the Boys Pop Factory on Japan TV where they sang a duo of Begin, Rainy Blue, True Love and I can’t remember what else but “Been So Long” remained the most memorable of that project. Here it is. Note, it also is credited to TVXQ
This was for those who think JJ can’t rap and YC even raps in English.
How is this even related to the tension between North and South Korea? Tsk! He must be Jae biased. LOL
@anna liza p.m. I liked them as 5 too. They could have done what Shinhwa did. Shinhwa left SM as a group and continued their activities with their old name. But YH wanted to keep the name.yes, since the name TVXQ was so famous and popular it was worthy for him to keep just the name, but the members who were a huge part of their popularity. As we know JYJ is very successful without having a very big agency like SM.But it is not very easy to be that successful without the help of a big agency.I think the duo didn’t want to leave SM and make their future precarious.I don’t know ,I can be wrong.
@MJunior I agree, Homin didn’t want to risk giving up the name and the fame they had established. They forgot though, that the members of JYJ carried the most appeal (to me). They had besides vocals, the stage presence, the charisma, charm and humor. Homin also didn’t have the courage to go against SM and face any adversity that may come. They took the easy way, and are content to do whatever they are told to do.
MJunior n JYJ Journey….my thought exactly
I agree with all three of you. I am not going to comment on HoMin’s abilities as singers coz this can be highly subjective, but to continue promoting themselves by using the fame of a name that did not belong to them alone is dishonest. If anything, the most memorable songs of DBSK were composed/written by JJ, YC and JS. The fact they stayed behind suggests they weren’t confident of their ability to stand on their own without the backing of a strong agency.
It may be legally permissible to use that name, but morally it is not. However much I liked and continue to like DBSK5, I have lost respect for those who had not the gumption to stand up for themselves or at least do the honest thing. JJ, YC and JS came up with the simplest of simple names for their group, no Gods or stars or big words in JYJ, but they stood on their own and earned my respect and I shall stand by them.
If they left together they could have kept the name, the name didn’t belong to SM 100% the members had the copyright not SM. but using the name by the duo was a total betrayal imo
DBSK as give was phenomenal. And what he said was said for effect. Designed to get a rise out of everyone who knows DBSK, TVX2 , JYJ and Kim Jaejoong. So, in that context… Okay. Everyone else take it with a grain of salt. Though I agree that TVX2 never sounded as good as when they were DB5K.
take it with a grain of salt ?
LOL ….don’t worry it’s not that serious ~
It’s not serious because most yoosu fans tend to stay quiet and ignore the disrespect to their feelings. That’s why someone like @kris can say “The truth hurts” in reply to Oliver’s dissing joke so openly on a JYJ site. She and the likes of her, they think what Oliver said is the truth, they take his words serious, it’s not a joke to ignore for them. They really believe Yoosu are shitty without Jaejoong, and flash those indicating words from Oliver around in victory. And JYJ fans aren’t going to stop the like of @kris from provoking Yoosu fans over this. Instead they gonna turn this into criticize homin time. Disrespect the feelings of JYJ fans who support Homin too. Who are always on this site, just like the likes of @kris disrespect the feelings of JYJ fans who support Yoosu on this site.
Jaejoong fans, need to stand up against the on going disrespect and pain that other Jaejoong fans are causing everyone. Be sensitive towards others feelings instead of being insensitive like @kris and jj4ever and @akisa etc.
“I didn’t need to google any of that. That was all up here *points to head* and in here *points to heart*“. ❤
After all those BS in twitter about cutting out JJ, this makes me smile 🙂
thanks a lot for this gif, full credit as tagged ❤
@Kris, I pity you.
@Luna
Likewise…
I was watching this the other day and really didn’t expect it … LOL John
that feeling when two of you favorite things cross ❤
and I know this will make some people upset or happy but seriously DON’T make a big deal out of this because. … well … it’s not that serious.
@ meme & JYJ
The ones making a big deal out of it, are Jaejoong bias fans like Kris and others on this cooment section, because they don’t take what Oliver said as a joke, they seriously agree with him and flash it around like, “look Yoosu fans, look Homin fans, yoosu and Homin voice is shitty without Jaejoong’s voice, Jaejoong is the best, Oliver said so, and he knows it through his heart and mind not through google”
it’s funny they post it as if it was a factual praise and by who? Oliver? lol. They just love what Oliver said because to them it’s a diss at Yoosu and Homin, at the same time its a praise and love for only their bias, that’s how they see it, they don’t think it was a joke.
look @kris’s post, she’s not a JYJ fan the way she tries to show everyone that without Jaejoong all are nothing. She’s one of those quick ones to welcome a diss against Yoosu in favor of her biasgetting praise, she don’t take Oliver’s words as a joke, and not a shamed to flash it, and JYJ fans welcome any diss on Homin at anytime anyway, because this site shamelessly welcomes Homin-Antis that cause wars instead of peace between the two fandoms, and they have no respect for fans who love both JYJ and Homin .
Most JYJ bias fans are Jaejoong bias any way, it’s not surprising they defend and welcome the likes of @kris at this site, and it’s not surprising that they always ignore all provocations and disses made by Jaejoong bias fans towards Yoosu. Most of the bias fans of JYJ on this site, almost never defend Yoosu. They might like Yoosu but not enough to respect yoosu fans feelings when they think their bias is being praised while his team members are being dissed. laugh it as a joke? they flash it as an in your face Yoosu fans.
The site shouldn’t have posted Oliver’s segment, it’s a hurtful joke on his part, on the expense of Yoosu fans feelings and JYJ fans who support Homin and Yoosu. This lousy joke of Oliver’s I didn’t need to here it. Jaejoong, Yoosu, Homin, non of their voices is shitty now. I just feel sorry for Jaejoong, he might get hate just because some of his stupid fans went posting Oliver’s hurtful words at social sites like its a trophy to be proud to be flashed around.
Shitty without Jaejoong, eh! of course Jaejoong fans love Oliver for this. They agree with him, probably said, “he’s right” instead of defending Yoosu, at the least defend JYJ if your really a JYJ fan not just a Jaejoong bias fan parading as a JYJ fan.
JYJ? JYJ fan? they only see one J in JYJ so of course they won’t defend Yoosu’s voice. It’s a joke a JYJ fan will say, but at the same time that very JYJ fan will thank Oliver for what he said as well, haha.
LMAO !!!! too long and too old !!!
what the hell is wrong with you ?
you’re still pissed and commenting about this ?
I didn’t realize it was an old post till I read your comment.
What’s funny is your reading an old post, @kris too lol.
I’m not reading anything I see the recent comments dawn the page and just go to the page ..
this was like 9 fucking months ago why are you even in this post writing long ass angry comments like it’s you duty or something
Even Westerners noticed the difference , before and after haha.
Lol this funny.. we love jaejoong..but ofc there will be people taking this seriously .-.
that was hilarious! thinking the fact that he is quite famous around the world, i am amazed that he knows JJ and his past. (no offense- he might not be aware of JYJ as a non-Asian). now many people will search about him and probably discover more about him and our JYJ:)
Mr. John Oliver and you’re script witer, this is for you 🙂

do you know what his back tattoo says? “TVfXQ SOUL” yes, what’s a body without the soul 🙂
Ahahhaahh truth has been spoken. Seriously. Tvxq is not tvxq without jyj. They should have a new name. I love dbsk, but the one where theres five of them, bcs then they were per, fect. I cannot understand how they carry the name when tvxq in its glorier days focuses on jaejoong and junsu as the main singers.
A lot of folks are taking this way too seriously. Maybe if you’re more familiar with his extremely sarcastic humor you’d know that Oliver doesn’t actually know about the TVXQ situation. One of the writers was obviously trying to create a recognizable reference to One Direction and other similar groups with limited knowledge. Pretty standard basic research for a punchline.
Lmao heheheh
This is really funny….I had to watch it twice because I just couldn’t believe John Oliver mentioned JJ.
My thought was exactly like John Oliver since the begining of JYJ. That’s I prefer and believe in JYJ since then.
Really TVXQ2 wants a reunion (under new name)? I don’t know. Maybe the fear, no courage, their parents or others are more important for TVXQ2. Military life could be a good adviser for the two of TVXQ2.
If we want a reunion then let’s be optimistic like Yuchun (as he said in his recent interview)!
I’ve infected others (near to me) with JYJ virus.
Dropping by just to say lol at the youtube comments sayin my oppar sold better numbers than yo oppar after yo oppar left. Dude, Oliver was talking about the sooound, dude. And probably the reason why many of us stood by the trio still. It’s the voice.
This show is somewhat crappy, but seriously, on point. :p
what they sold really ? Mirotic is still the best selling album in Korea and Tohoshinki5 “the best collection” album is still the best selling album in japan.
@ Heheh Oliver said that for laughs. Are you by JYJ for one voice? Because in his joke, Oliver dissed all the voices except for one voice. Saying we all stand by JYJ because Oliver was talking about one sound, makes me believe you didn’t hear him well, you obviously didn’t realized what he said, and misunderstood.
He said all the voices are shitty when Jaejoong left. Jaejoong bias fans took it as praise and welcomed the diss on Yoosu, JYJ fans turned it over into a welcome to the dissing on Homin time, as they usually due like some ritual they must perform on a regular basis on this site, seeing this site doesn’t prevent anti comments made on Homin or other k-pop singers.
And now there is a big fan war over an odd joke? like who were the viewers for Oliver to crack a joke on TVXQ instead of One Direction? were the viewers korean or American ? do TVXQ appear, have ever appeared on any American TV show these past 12 years for the joke to make sense for national viewers? really strange.
Who wrote the script for Oliver, we all know viewers present at the studio, are paid to laugh and clap when signaled at a segment in that show.
one doesn’t have to know their story to be respectful..he sure has a prejudiced person about other cultures plus has a cheap sense of humor(I’m saying this as a person who is fond of British humor and British comedians)
and I don’t believe he cares about JJ or others, this is not liking someone, when he uses his name as if he has to choose the lesser bad..
Absolutely spot on. What is a band when their lead vocal left. Lol…
Do you all know what’s most funny? the comments that agree with what Oliver calling Yoosu and Homin’s voices shitty without Jaejoong.
First you should know you just agreed with someone being sarcastic. It’s pathetic how serious you took his sarcasm as praise.
And secondly, your true color has just showed.
Your not a JYJ, nor a Yoosu fan, seeing how seriously you took to the diss as victory against the other two members. So quick to the first opportunity at a diss just like an anti. You couldn’t even see it was sarcasm.
Thirdly, hope you realized how pathetic and disrespectful you just appeared in front of the rest of the fandom, us who enjoy the beautiful voices of Yoochun and Junsu.
Go listen to Yoochun’s “how much Love you got in your wallet” and Junsu’s “Tarantallegra” right now and if you agree that their voices are shitty without Jaejoong’s voice, then you should have you ears rechecked.
