Kim Junsu bid fans farewell during his last orchestral concert before his military enlistment.
C-JeS Entertainment stated, “Kim Junsu held his fifth end-of-the-year concert ‘2016 XIA Ballad & Musical Concert with Orchestra vol.5’ yesterday and spoke honestly about his upcoming military enlistment. This concert was an amalgamation of his musical history, and all 20,000 seats for each of the three performances were sold out.”
Kim Junsu performed songs as all the characters he has portrayed in the past six years, creating his own musical based on his career. He fully immersed himself in each character and each scene, and his fans held their breath in anticipation as the big screens caught Kim Junsu’s every breath, expression, and movement.
A representative stated, “Kim Junsu had to carry the entire show, except for the three minutes he had for outfit changes. He had the hard task of portraying seven characters, and he was amazing and commanded the stage. It was a performance that only Kim Junsu could pull off, and he did his best to create the best stage he could possibly give his fans.”
During the concert, Kim Junsu thanked Ock Joo Hyun and Oh So Yeon, his “Elisabeth” and “December” co-stars, respectively. He also took a moment to interview composer Kim Mun Jung, who was in charge of the orchestra and music for the concert, and a figure who has been with him the longest during his career as a musical actor.
After performing a gala song from the 2011 musical “Tears of Heaven,” Kim Junsu spoke honestly about his upcoming military enlistment. The singer said, “I find it ironic to be wearing a military uniform for my ‘Tears of Heaven’ performance because this concert is my last musical&ballad concert before my enlistment.”
He continued, saying, “I like to think of it as a quick break. I think it’s something all Korean men should go through, and I will make sure I take care of my health. Once that time passes, I’ll come back and repay you for the love you all have given me.”
Meanwhile, Kim Junsu will be having his last “2016 XIA Ballad&Musical Concert with Orchestra vol.5” concert on December 11.

[NEWS] 161211 JYJ’s Junsu bids farewell in final concert before joining military
SEOUL, Dec. 11 (Yonhap) — Junsu of South Korean K-pop trio JYJ bid farewell to his global fans in his last concert before starting his compulsory military duty.
The musical performer beamed during the “2016 Xia Ballad & Musical Concert with Orchestra Vol. 5” held in eastern Seoul from Friday to Sunday. The 29-year-old has arranged to serve his two-year military service starting February.
On the second day of the goodbye concert, the musical performer tugged at his fans’ heartstrings as he cried out “Chungseong,” a military greeting term for senior officers, meaning “loyalty” in Korean.
“It is ironic to say these things after singing ‘Tears in Heaven’ in a military uniform,” the K-pop artist told fans. He called the concert his “last break” before leaving for “a duty for all Korean men.”
In the concert, Junsu sang the best songs of his six-year musical career, including hits from “Elizabeth,” “December” and “Tears in Heaven.”
Tickets for the three-day concert sold out fast, drawing some 20,000 viewers to meet the globally followed K-pop star.
After being trained in Nonsan in February, Junsu will be dispatched to the public relations unit of Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency, according to a government notice.

Our amazing Junsu❗️I’m sure there were tears in his eyes…even if Junsu is not a crier….as he talked to his audience. Another thing I’m sure of is that Junsu will serve his country well, making all his fans proud.
Check the fancams of fans singing Hello Hello to him, he definitely cried there and during closing the curtain.
Who could blame him? Honestly, after 7 years of not appearing on Television and he still has fans supporting him and willing to wait almost 2 years for him to come back.
This phase of his life is ending with beauty and love.
If he goes at the beginning of February 2017, he will be back with us by November 2018 since conscripted policemen serve 21 months. We are lucky that both JS and JJ serve 21 months and not the maximum 24 and especially YC who is serving 24 months while the maximum for civil service is 36 months.
But with the impeachment of the SK President and the NK army having mock drills aiming at the Blue House, things are becoming tense once again.
Yeah, I worry about what will Junsu have to go through as a policeman during this time. I just hope for things to calm down and not escalate.
I have watched all the fan cams of his performance and I have to give a standing ovation to Junsu. 7 different characters for 3 hours each day for 3 consecutive days is an absolute monstrous of a performance to be given by a person who had one of the hardest times this year. His high level of sophistication and hard work is unmatched by his peers. I just wish he and the rest of JYJ get a chance to showcase their uniqueness on a stage that treats them fairly and gives them the chance to show the world who perfect they are. A person of this caliber deserves the world, and they all should have it. I just wish that one day they get their chance because I see lesser people have the opportunity and they waste it every chance they get, while these talented individuals can’t even be treated fairly. They have to rely on the kindness of people to be able to live and express themselves. I really do hope for a miracle to happen and reward JYJ for their pure hearts and hard work.
@ Zamo You have said this in such a beautiful way. I join you in your wishes. We have a saying “From your mouth into God’s ears” . I hope there is some truth in it. By being JYJ loyal and genuine supporters we have performed our small miracle but JYJ deserve the whole world to embrace them.
When I see others talk of debuting in other countries and talking comfortably about enlistment I cannot help but think of JYJ and feel that they are the ones who should be debuting or speaking comfortably because they are all unmatched in their level of artistry. If you take a glance around at the said competition(both eastern and western), you would see they would have topped them easily if they were treated fairly.
You know what, Since \i discovered JYJ I have never listened to any other singers, except some classics and opera/musicals. Occasionally when I watch TV and happen to see some of the western performances (they don’t show here from the East) I find it so shallow and so aided that it irritates me. I have never referred to JYJ as idols because to me this brings their level down to those other shallow idols while JYJ are much much above that level.in their vocal expression and range of genres they can cover.
Sounds like me……
me neither. or watch any american anything. they just can’t compare to korean things.
It’s quite bazaar isn’t it? A language….you don’t understand….the landscapes…..that are unfamiliar to you…..the interior of the homes…..that look a bit different from what you’re use to……the wide eyed kiss, the back hug, the wrist grab, the back ride….all so far from your norm! But the ability of the actors to express emotions, the ability of the director to bring out the heart of the story written by an author who understands human emotions…..all of the ‘pretty’……come together to make superior watching❗️Oh, and how does putting a bandaid on a little scrape become so sweet, caring, and smexy? LOL! And….we won’t even start talking about the abilities of our JYJ men to steal your heart with a ballad or rock song‼️
you are spot on! and a million more reasons to watch. kdramas are just superior to american stuff!
I get so frustrated I could just about scream…..these folk around here! I’ve been ‘all about KDramas’ for years now and still these folk I know WILL NOT listen to me about what they are missing‼️ They just say “you’re a mess, girl” or “I don’t see the attraction”…..open up a little people….go for something new and come delight in all the ‘pretty’! I can understand a little better with Korean music….but really? Just once watch JYJ sing Heaven….how about it! Watch Jae Joong sing Keshou or Junsu sing Love is Like A Snowflake or Yuchun and that wonderful MV for HMLDYHIYW…..just tell me what’s there not to love, love, love?
Okay…that felt good! Silly people that’s all they are!
well WE know what they are missing! so happy to be one who KNOWS!
Koreamom…..we are SO TOTALLY IN THE KNOW❗️
and oh so lucky! there are so many to share this with here too!
I hear you, my friend! I keep trying to introduce these things to my family and some other people who I know would love k-dramas and kpop if they’d give them a chance, but they don’t want to read subtitles, or translated lyrics, or some such nonsense. Well, reading subtitles could genuinely be a problem for some people, but most of the ones I’ve talked to are just making excuses and you can see it. Mostly, they are threatened by anything outside of what they are familiar with.
Frankly, they just have no idea of the things they miss out on. When we shut ourselves off, we may shut out bad things, but we’ll also shut ourselves off to a lot of good things too. I’ve realized that in trying to overcome my shyness, and the same thing applies in pretty much any area of life. I couldn’t be happier I discovered Korean dramas. They have fully developed characters, some amazing actors and actresses to portray those roles, and storylines that leave you either smiling from ear to ear, rolling with laughter, or sitting in a puddle of tears. I don’t remember the last time an American T.V. show managed to do any of that to me.
Not to mention the fact that because I found k-dramas, I also found all of you wonderful people! 😊 @koreamom is right! I’m thankful we have each other here! 💜
I accidentally hit “post comment” too soon. I was also going to say that k-dramas led me to finding JYJ. Now there is no going back! I go around singing blissfully in Korean while everyone stares at me like an Alien. Do I care? Not at all! 😁 lol
Sound like me, too.
Honestly all these years I keep thinking that the korean public lost the opportunity to be amazed by one of their country’s most talented artists of all time more than the fact JYJ couldn’t get the opportunity to showdcase their talent as any other korean celebrity because of their enemy’s strong connections. Thankfully JYJ, Jaejoong, Junsu and Yoochun succeeded and reached the top of their dreams despite everything that was blocking their way and this my biggest reason of relief, pride and admiration to them.
It’s not just Korea but the whole world also lost the opportunity to witness such marvelous performances.
You put my thoughts so well. Thanks .The JYJ boys are in a class above all their peers.
You’re welcome.
I just wish for their talents to be seen by the whole world.
This is what we call a royal artist, real art real talent mixed with elegance and strength ❤
Jaechnsu…..thank you for this insight! Wonderfully put! When I think back over this last year….when did Junsu ever stop performing? He went form one project to the other and will perform in Death Note, then go to a fan meeting in February the day before he leaves for basic training. Where exactly does his energy come from? If he were an American singer I would be quick to say it was drugs. My apologies to those American artists who work hard without drugs, but holy cow, Junsu is the Energizer Bunny on steroids! Much like Jae and Yuchun he will experience ‘culture shock’ those first few months of service. But I’m sure he will make all of his family and fans proud!
His energy comes from a pure heart willing to push itself for absolute perfection.
Very true, Zamo, very true! Plus I think Junsu’s heart must beat to the rhythm of whatever song he is singing! Life itself for him is to sing and dance❗️
all i can say is thank you all for your comments cause it expresses what is in my heart. that showcase must have been so daebak. junsu is truly one of the greatest artists of all time.
@koreamom I’m late to this conversation, but I’d like to second your comment! I feel the same.
❤ 🙂
