On June 23, it was confirmed that JYJ’s Kim Jae Joong and UEE have both been cast as leads in KBS’s upcoming time-slip drama called “Manhole” (tentative title).
KBS’s “Manhole” is a comedy drama about a man who goes back in time to stop a marriage from happening in the present. Kim Jaejoong will be playing the lead male role of Bong Pil, who is a character that has been studying for the civil servant exam for three years and is the neighborhood’s token unemployed person. He’s an immature character who doesn’t feel the need to grow up and depends heavily on his father, who is a postmaster.
UEE will be taking on the lead female character of Kang Su Jin, a character that has built a metaphorical wall between herself and Bong Pil for 18 years; however, as her marriage date draws closer, her feelings waver as she begins to see Bong Pil’s love for her in a different light.
“Manhole” is set to begin airing after “Queen for 7 Days” comes to an end.
“Queen for 7 Days” airs every Wednesday and Thursday. Watch it on Viki!

On June 23, reports revealed Jaejoong and UEE will be playing opposite each other in a drama that revolves around a man who goes back in time to stop a marriage. ‘Manhole’ will premiere following the finale of ‘Queen for 7 Days’ in August.

Usually I don’t trust on rating alone, like LeeJunki/IU Scarlet Heart Ryeo, it has very low rating during the first half and Knetz had all the negative comments (as translated in NB) , I have to see it myself and it’s one of the best drama I’ve watched, I like it more than DOTS.
I give Marriage Contact a try, still at ep 3, I think I have to set aside all other dramas I started to finish MC 😀.
But good drama + high rating of course is better, Manhole Fighting!
I agree with you about rating, I’ve watched many dramas with low ratings that are better than DOTS. Yes let’s hope for the best to Manhole as for us a drama with Kim Jaejoond added to the list is already a big prize ❤
This is getting to be a bit dangerous. I can see, if this drama gets high ratings, netizens buzzing how it is because, you see UEE always gets high rating while JJ doesn’t and vice versa, if it the ratings are low, you see JJ is pulling it down, coz you see … Blah blah blah. I don’t care for the ratings. I know JJ will bring this drama to life as he is perfect for this role.
@Anna liza her drama ratings are high because they are weekends dramas! Most if not all weekends drama get high ratings unlike week days dramas! Weekends drama are mostly watched by old ajhummas and they have many episodes! Big actors don’t like acting in them despite the high ratings.. Now Uee is breaking out of them to act alongside JJ in a weed day drama ^^

@Anna liza, as Nora Kim said weekend dramas rating is different from weekdays rating. weekend dramas can get 30-40 in rating often but it’s rare for weekdays drama to get that rating. having 20% rating in weekends drama is the average. as for Jaejoong’s weekdays Drama PTB and Dr.Jin had great ratings, Triangle was pretty good while for Spy its time slot was new and its rating was great compared to the previous drama so don’t worry Anna liza there won’t be such comparaison. the drama’s rating depend mostly on the script and the plot, remember how Triangle started very well and in the lead of rating but the plot was slow so its rating went down before they got back in the game and leaded the rating again when the drama got more interesting after the +10 first episodes..so I hope Manhole has a good script and plot, as @Kris previously said all the current female lead roles in dramas aren’t really good, so if the drama is good weither UEE is bad or good the drama won’t be affected. everybody praise the scritptwriter of Manhole and we have Jaejoong who has shown great potentiel as an actor so I have positive expectations for this drama, Now if only KBS can invite Jaejoong to shows to promote the drama it would be the best help.
I just pick dramas by the actors I like and the premise. Scarlet Heart I knew instantly was going to be good because of the cast. Ditto Goblin, Hwarang, Moonlight Drawn By Clouds and Strong Woman Bong Su. (several favorite actors appeared in more than one of these dramas.) Right now I’m watching Queen For Seven Days (on Viki) and Ruler: Mask (on DF.) Because I liked the lead in Queen For Seven Days so much, I’m also watching him in Divorce Lawyer In Love. That’s what I do – i ping pong around watching the previous dramas of new discovery actors.
@Nora Kim and @ jaechnsu Thank you ladies for taking the time to explain things to me in such great detail but mostly for being so optimistic. I have no doubt that Jajoong will be very successful in this role. Already he has assumed the schoolboy and carefree image of Bong Pil. And I also know that weekend ratings are higher than weekday and she was in a weekend drama and possibly this contributed to her high ratings. But I read that she is connected to that “guy”. I don’t know exactly who that guy is but if it’s the one I suspect then his fans always find ways to fault JJ in whatever he does. So what I meant was that this being a weekday drama it will not probably get as high ratings as she had in her previous weekend drama. Then those haters may “forget” the difference between weekday and weekend and start finding non-existent faults.
But I am running too far ahead of myself. I am so happy that we shall be seeing him regularly on the screen for a length of time and I shall thoroughly enjoy following that rascal Bong Pil who doesn’t even have three names as normal people do.
@jaechnsu i agree with you. the drama’s rating depends mostly on the script and the plot..normally lead actors has an 80-90% pulling power from audience (w/c i know Jaejoong is capable of that) with all the cast coming in together..and chemistry has to be really good. In Manhole, i like the scriptwriter, i like the director, of course with Jaejoong as the lead it is a thumbs up for me….Jaejoong has proven himself in his acting ability and no questions about that, since Uee offered and accepted the role, i’d like to see the positive review about her..i think this drama is going to be a breakthrough in everything…Jaejoong comeback drama, a rom-com director and a crime thriller writer coming together for sci-fi comedy, Uee turns down a weekend drama instead choose to go for a weekday drama with Kim Jaejoong.
Now this gets me excited, i hope Jaejoong can do the Ost 🙂 as you said this would be great if Jaejoong could promote.
Re: the OST – he just won the Golden Disc Award for “Most Popular Asian World Star,” so that must mean something pretty desirable to the OST producers… 🙂

That is merely your personal opinion. Uee is known for doing well in some of her dramas. “You’re Beautiful” for example showed her doing a wonderful job as a manipulative bitch character. YOU may think she is not good at acting, but obviously the broadcasting stations do and so do her fans. Perhaps you should show some common human decency and respect and just accept what is. I have to admit I’ve hated UEE ever since her role in “You’re Beautiful” with Jang Guen Suk, which kind of makes no sense, I mean she was only acting a role, but still… I’ve never seen her in another drama since then (on purpose) but I’ll definitely watch her with Jaejoong in Manhole. The love scenes might still be squirm-worthy, but then again, maybe not. I know she’s dating Lee Sang Yoon (a major heart-throb of me and Georgia Peach) so how bad can she be??

Watching him all of these years, he is just effortlessly outgoing; he is interested in other people and he knows that because of who he is and how he appears to people, he’ll have to make the first move to be friendly and he’s comfortable with that. All rare qualities in a celebrity, I might add.
A person’s physical appearance does not define their ability to act nor show good skills and chemistry onscreen. I don’t understand why people in this world are so consumed by or compelled to judge other’s based on looks. Looks are not important. Yeah sure JJ is pretty, but that will have no bearing on how they get along as actors in the drama. I don’t get people at all.

Well At that time I too approve of her evil acting but now she shoved her jaws to the point that her pronunciation & facial expressions are affected! Her pronunciation makes people distance themselves from watching her! But we never know we gotta wait & see if she fixed that and how things will turn out! For the time being i’m remaining positive! But if others don’t like someone why would you bother with their opinions? What’s been done is done! Both confirmed and not everyone is supposed to think the same way as you do.

Nora, actually I mentioned that drama as one example. Sure there may be some people who see her acting the way you do, but there are also those who feel she is talented. Also, I never once stated that all people should think the way I do. However, ALL people should still be able to show some human decency and not judge others by physical appearance. That is just logic. Personally I have only seen two of her dramas so I am unaware of what you mean, however you are correct “what’s done is done” and people should accept the reality of who his co-star is without complaining like children. Just “sayin.”

I’ve watched You’re Beautiful years ago but I couldn’t remember her. Just recently I give Marriage Contract a try, already at ep7, every episode since ep1 gave me teary moments, it’s also my first time to watch the lead actor Lee Seo Jin but I’m hooked.with the drama, highly recommended for those who like melodramas.

I like her character in “You’re Beautiful” it made a mark on me…honestly,all actors and actress done a good work in that drama, it’s the reason why i expected a lot from her but she’s the one that’s left behind when all was doing great in every project after that hit…this frustrates for a time,not to mention the negativity thrown at her…but come to think of it, accepting the role in Manhole has a lot of advantage for her, Jaejoong is a great motivator to work with..

Don’t you think it’s a bit illogical and irrational to “hate” someone you have never met nor know anything about? It’s childish actually. However, perhaps (if you mean it in the way I assume) that shows a nod to her acting. I couldn’t stand the character she portrayed in “You’re Beautiful,” but it made me have respect for her acting ability. She truly made people think she was a manipulative brat. Yep, she and that actor broke up almost seven months ago. Personally I can’t wait to see what kind of vibes their acting together shows onscreen.
